Anyone that has had a headache in the past understands how debilitating and painful they can be. Headaches make it hard to concentrate, work, sleep and, especially, enjoy yourself. Practically everyone has had a headache at least once. This does not mean headaches are “normal.” They should not be accepted as part of your daily life. In the United States more than 157,000,000 workdays are lost each year due to headaches. Sixty percent of people who have headaches have one or more severe headache attacks each month. Astonishingly, about 26,000,000 Americans have some sort of headaches on a regular basis!

There are two main types of headaches. One is called a migraine, the other is called a tension stress headache. The symptoms of these headaches can be somewhat similar, but the causes can be very different. It’s important to find out and understand what type of headache you have in order to properly treat it.

A migraine is more than a bad headache. This type of headache is usually a recurrent, throbbing sensation felt on one or both sides of the head. Usually beginning in early childhood, adolescence and young adult life, migraine pain is often excruciating, and may incapacitate you for hours or even days. Warning signs may include: flashes of light, dizziness or numbness. The signs are often accompanied by vomiting, nausea and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

These painful headaches are caused by the rapid widening and narrowing of blood vessel walls in the brain and head. This causes the nerves and pain fibers in the blood vessel wall to become irritated. Blood vessels in the scalp can be involved. Some of causes of migraine headaches are food allergies, stress, and environmental allergies.

Tension Stress Headaches. The cause of a tension stress headache is usually from a pinched nerve. When the bones in the neck and back get out of alignment, it can cause nerves to be pinched. The pain can be throbbing, or can feel like pressure in or on the head. The pinched nerves become aggravated and send signals of pain to the brain. Misalignment of the neck and back can be caused by car accidents, falls, bad posture, hard physical labor, and many other physical strains.

What would my medical doctor do to prevent headaches? Well first of all it depends on which types of triggers that the doctor believes is causing the headaches. Normally, a general practitioner will recommend over the counter anti-inflammatories such as advil, ibuprofen, or tylenol. For allergy type headaches, claritin, alavert or sudafed can sometimes be recommended. If the patient has little or no success with these methods, the next step is higher doses of these drugs, which requires a prescription. If the headaches still persist, than a pain killer like percoset or vicodan can be recommended and prescribed.

Is there a better way? How would Dr. Lynch treat patients who suffer with headaches. There is a better way! Pain killers cover up the problem. Pain killers do not get to the cause of the headache. At Lynch Chiropractic Health Center we have ways available for you to help you rid all types of headaches. Re-establishing the structural integrity of the spine to remove any pinched nerves will quickly help alleviate tension stress headaches. Massage therapy helps relax the muscles of the neck and head, the same muscles that may be triggering your headaches. We have helped many people say goodbye to their headaches. For migraines or allergy type headaches, Dr. Keith Lynch has made available to you a simple and non-invasive procedure to prevent the body from reacting negatively to the foreign substances (allergies) which can trigger headaches. At Lynch Chiropractic Health Center we help you identify triggers that cause you to have headaches in the first place. After all, you can’t avoid your problem foods or allergens if you don’t know what they are! If you or someone you are concerned about experiences or suffers with headaches, call Lynch Chiropractic Health Center at 434.245.8456 and schedule a consultation with Dr. Keith Lynch. There is no charge for the initial consultation. This could be the first step in eliminating your headaches for good, naturally and with no bad health side effects.

What can I do at home to help alleviate headache pain?

Unfortunately, there is not much that you can do on your own to avoid having headaches. There are temporary solutions like advil and sudafed, but these are not something that you want becoming a part of your everyday life. They can be very harmful to your kidneys, liver, and other body parts. For tension stress headaches, you can try to correct your posture while sitting by putting a foot stool under your feet. Lifting your feet like this will cause a tilt on the pelvis to help your body create the proper curve in your low back. Do not sleep on your stomach! The best position to sleep is face up with ONE pillow under your head and a bolster or pillow under the knees. If you choose to sleep on your side, place a pillow between your knees to prevent the spine from torquing to the side.

New Treatment For For People With Fibromyalgia

If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, you have probably seen over a dozen doctors and they have ruled out MS. They have ruled out rheumatoid arthritis. They have ruled out lupus and now you have the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. Since you are reading this post, either you or someone you love have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and what I am here to share with you today is what makes us different from all those other doctors that you have seen for this condition.

First of all, we treat patients neurologically as well as metabolically and I am going to go over that for you. What we are going to talk about first is how we test and identify metabolic problems and how we treat those. When we do our testing we leave no stone unturned to try to find the cause of your Fibromyalgia. Did you read that? The cause of your Fibromyalgia.

If you are like many of the Fibromyalgia patients I’ve treated, you’ve been to dozens of doctors. You were probably prescribed Amitriptyline or Neurontin. You are probably taking Ambien or Clonazepam. You have probably taken numerous over the counter medications and probably tried anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication. Maybe you are on Lyrica ,an anti-seizure drug, it’s not the Fibromyalgia cure all. All these drugs are designed to do is stop your brain from feeling the symptoms that you are receiving from your condition. In other words, we are just trying to cover up the light on the dash board that is telling us something is wrong.

Nobody’s identified the actual problem that is causing your Fibromyalgia condition.

In our office we are willing to find the cause and we are going to do it through extensive testing.

We are going to start by doing blood tests. These tests are going to help us find out what’s actually happening in your body. We are going to do a thyroid panel. We are going to do a complete metabolic panel. We will check your lipid panel and we will also do a CBC with auto differential. In other words, we are going to find out what your red blood cells and white blood cells are telling us about what is happening in your body.

New Treatment For Peripheral Neuropathy

If you have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, or believe that you have peripheral neuropathy, you have probably been to over a dozen doctors by now. The signs and symptoms of peripheral neuropathy are different from one person to another.

There are several types of neuropathy. There is diabetic neuropathy. There is mononeuropathy. There is multi-complex neuropathy and polyneuropathy. The one thing in common with this neuropathy condition is that it has got nerve fibers that are being affected. What patients are generally feeling is pain, itching, or electric shock-like sensations. Some have cramping. Some have a numbness or a tingling. It is very common to see a glove or sock distribution, so around the hands and fingers and around the ankles and into the feet. This neuropathy can be constant sometimes for people. Sometimes it is activated by standing or moving. Sometimes it happens when you are sitting still. If you have got diabetic neuropathy, polyneuropathy, or mononeuropathy, which are all types of peripheral neuropathy, those are the types of signs and symptoms that you are going to see.

What Makes Treating Peripheral Neuropathy at Lynch Chiropractic Health Center Different

Now what I, Dr. Keith. P. Lynch, am going to share with you today is what makes us at Lynch Chiropractic Health Center different than all the other doctors that you have been seeing. Now if you have been diagnosed with neuropathy, you have probably been treated with Amitriptyline. You have probably been treated with Gabapentin or Lyrica for your peripheral neuropathy.

Some Prescribed Medications Were Not Made To Treat Peripheral Neuropathy

What you need to know about these medications is that they were not designed for peripheral neuropathy. This is what is called off-label use of prescription medication. Amitriptyline is an anti-depressant. Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure and anti-convulsant drugs. Basically what I’m telling you is if you have been diagnosed with neuropathy, and that is what you are taking, what you are doing is you are playing Russian Roulette with those drugs. You are just taking them hoping that it is going to give you some kind of relief. For many people, it does give them some relief.
Now please, I’m not telling you not to take your medications. That would be considered practicing medicine without a license. We do not do that here. What I am telling you is you need to reconsider what you are doing if you are still experiencing the signs and symptoms of neuropathy. We treat patients metabolically and neurologically for peripheral neuropathy.

New Dizziness and Balance Disorder Treatment

Do you or someone you know has been diagnosed with Meniere’s disease or dizziness or benign proximal vertigo or just vertigo? Perhaps you have motion sickness. Any one of those things is classified under a category called dizziness. And if you have that dizziness you probably have been seen by over a dozen doctors at this point.

At the Lynch Chiropractic Health Center, we implement a non drug non surgical correction for dizziness conditions. We treat patients metabolic and neurologically. No stone if left unturned to define the exact cause of your dizziness. Because with dizziness there can be so many different things involved that it’s a very exhaustive process of trying to diagnose exactly what’s number one causing the dizziness and number two what if anything is actually driving that.

Dr. Keith Lynch Explains How He Successfully Treats People with Dizziness and Balance Disorders

So let me explain to you how we successfully treat patients who have dizziness symptoms. We do metabolic testing based on specific lab tests. So what does that mean, we’ll run a thyroid panel, we’ll run a complete metabolic panel, we’ll run a lipids panel and we’ll also run complete blood count with auto differential. By accessing your thyroid glands, your adrenal glands, your liver, your kidneys, your blood function, we can find out what is actually happening in your body, because all internal functions can be affected with a chronic condition like dizziness. Dizziness can come from several areas and we need to access how it’s affecting your entire body, that’s how we get it corrected and keep it from coming back.

Dizziness and Balance Disorder Drugs Don’t Always Address Your Problems

Now if you have dizziness, you’ve probably already tried antihistamines, anti-cholinergic drugs. Maybe you’ve been on Meclizine and maybe that’s helped you maybe it hasn’t. For a lot of patients that I see it doesn’t address their problems. We also run sensitivity testing. Some of the symptoms associated with sensitivity can be dizziness, chronic pain or chronic fatigue, indigestion, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, sores or ulcers. These are some of the more common symptoms of sensitivity type situation in dizziness and balance disorders, but if you’re eating gluten and your gluten sensitive and don’t know if often times you won’t have any these symptoms what you’ll be doing is you’ll be driving an inflammatory process in the body which can be causing neurological symptoms.

Using the Percussor and Cold Laser To Alleviate Back Pain

One instrument Dr. Lynch uses to help alleviate back pain is called the percussor. This tool feels like a massaging instrument. Most patients rave about how great the percussor feels.

The percussor is designed to release fascia which can alleviate back pain

This tool is used to break up scar tissue and “free up” bound muscle tissue that can keep spinal misalignments returning. Releasing fascia helps relax the muscles and helps allow the bones to move into their proper positions, thus removing pressure off of the nerve tissue.

At Lynch Chiropractic Health Center, Dr. Lynch addresses both the misalignments of the spine and the scar tissue and bound muscle tissue that are main causes of back pain.

Cold Laser Therapy can also help alleviate back pain

Dr. Lynch offers cold laser therapy, also known as low level laser, which , when used properly, can increase the healing process of back pain by reducing inflammation and pain. Cold laser therapy also helps stabilize and strengthen weakened muscles that can lead to misalignments of the spine in the first place.

Both the percussor and the cold laser assist to alleviate back pain.

Non-Surgical Solutions For Back Pain

If you’ve got back pain, you understand how it limits your lifestyle and daily living choices. Back pain can cause loss of time from work, loss of sleep, and you missing out on the enjoyable things in life. Most people have experienced back pain, whether it be from a strain or their “back going out.” One half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year. Back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor. Experts estimate that 80% of Americans will experience back pain at some time.

What causes back pain?

The back is a structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to back pain. Sports injuries, accidents or falls can cause back pain. Sometimes the simplest of movements—like picking up a pencil from the floor— can have painful results. Poor posture, arthritis, obesity and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. Back pain can also directly result from referred pain of internal organs. Back pain can have a number of causes. Some causes are more serious than others.

What might my general physician do to alleviate back pain?

Most patients have told me that the first thing their general practitioner usually recommend is for you to rest and avoid harsh physical involvement. Muscle relaxers, painkillers and hot or cold packs can be recommended or prescribed. Physical therapy may also be recommended. Sometimes these methods help with the issues, and sometimes it can allow for the situation to worsen.

The more time that passes that the cause of back pain is not directly addressed, the longer it can take to correct the cause of the pain. As the issue of back pain progresses and you see minimal to no relief, your general physician will usually prescribe a shot at the site of pain. This shot is designed to reduce inflammation and in return reduce pain. Sometimes the patient receives the relief they desire. Other times the shot will have no effect on the pain. Three shots is the maximum a patient usually can receive. Then, the doctor may recommend the patient to make an appointment with an orthopedist, who might recommend surgery.

What other choices are available for you to address back pain?

That’s when Dr. Keith Lynch and the health team at Lynch Chiropractic Health Center come in. Two main causes of back pain are (a) subluxations or misalignments of the spine and/or pelvis, or (b) fascia or connective tissue issues. Dr. Keith Lynch offers a gentle and very effective approach to correcting misalignments of the spine and getting the bones into their proper positions, thus taking pressure off the nerves that exit the spine. The same nerves that enable you to “feel” pain.

Dr. Lynch gives his patients adjustments to the spine without any twisting, popping or cracking. The adjustments are very gentle, specific and effective. You could say these are virtually pain-free chiropractic adjustments for back pain. Dr. Lynch uses an spinal adjusting instrument as well as the Atlas Orthogonal adjusting instrument to gently bump the bones back into their proper positions. Most patients will tell you the adjustments and treatment they receive doesn’t hurt at all. The Atlas Orthogonal procedure was recently featured on the popular television program, “The Doctors.” Even though this treatment works on the NECK, it is remarkably effective as part of a complete treatment plan for lower back pain.
